Some cars are more than just steel, chrome, and rubber. They hold memories, carry stories, and connect generations
Stephen story of his 1960 FB Holden ute is exactly that.
Stephen was just 12 years old when his father bought the oldFB Holden from a paddock in the Snowy Mountains. His dad was a angry man, not one to share any words or show any softness. But something shifted as the two of them worked side by side on restoring the ute. For the first time, Stephen felt like he truly had a father – not just in name, but in spirit.
That project became the only truly happy memory Stephen had with his dad growing up, and the ute transformed into much more than a car. It became a symbol of their only true connection.
In 2020, Stephens father sold him the FB ute. Today, Stephen keeps it safely in his shed – not just as a classic Holden, but as a happy memory of the bond he and his father shared working on this car together.
Now a father himself, Stephen is building a 1933 Hotrod Pickup with his own son. But this time, things are different. He makes sure to treat his boy like a prince every single day, not just when the rod is being built.
Stephen’s story reminds us all how cars can have such a huge impact on some ones life. They can bind us together across generations.
